Resumo: Pyogenic granuloma is a benign vascular lesion of rapid growth, propense to bleeding and that is frequently found in the oral cavity. A 50-year-old female patient presented to the Dentistry Department of the University Anhanguera-Uniderp in Campo Grande, MS, Brazil, with a painless persistent intra-oral swelling located between the lower left lateral incisor and canine. The lesion first appeared two years earlier without apparent causes. Clinical examination revealed a 1 cm smooth lobulated red sessile tissue mass of highly vascularized appearance, ulcerated and bleeding when provoked. Radiographic investigations showed regular bony structures. Pyogenic granuloma and giant cell granuloma were defined as diagnostic hypotheses. An excisional biopsy was performed to reach the definitive diagnosis. Histopathological examination presented epithelium with a highly vascular underlying stroma and lobular area with plump endothelial cell lined capillaries which confirmed the diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma. The patient showed no signs of lesion reccurence for one year.
