Resumo: RADIOGRAPHIC STAGING IN PATIENTS USING BISPHOSPHONATESMedication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ) is a side effect affecting patients undergoing treatment for bone diseases. The most commonly used medications include Zometa, Alendronate, and Risedronate. Imaging exams are essential tools for evaluating the development and staging of these lesions. The radiographic features of osteonecrosis are closely associated with certain local risk factors such as furcation involvement, dental surgeries, presence of endodontic and prosthetic treatments, root remnants, and bone defects. The aim of this study is to apply a dental radiographic staging protocol developed by Prof. Dr. Paulo Carmargo, in which two observers (a professor and a student) evaluate bone lesions in patients with medication-related osteonecrosis based on a survey of panoramic radiographs from patients screened at São Leopoldo Mandic Dental School, selected due to their use of bisphosphonates. This method provides a standardized approach for monitoring bone lesions and guiding treatment, as it enables tracking changes in lesion staging-whether progression or regression-thereby contributing to improved patient quality of life.
