Resumo: Objective: To develop and evaluate an orabase ointment containing ozonized sunflower oil (OSO) for biocompatibility and wound healing potential. Study Design: The biological characterization included cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, and wound healing assays using L929 fibroblast cells. OSO concentration was determined through serial dilutions (1:1 to 1:128), and cytotoxicity was assessed to identify non-cytotoxic concentrations (1:32 and 1:64). These concentrations were then used for genotoxicity and wound healing tests. Ointments were subsequently formulated and subjected to physicochemical analysis, including pH, relative density, and viscosity measurements. Results: Cytotoxicity was dose-dependent. The 1:32 and 1:64 groups showed a significant increase in micronuclei formation only on day 7. Wound healing was observed in all groups and time points, with the 1:32 group exhibiting a smaller wound area on day 3. The highest OSO concentration (1:32) corresponded to the greatest density (1.116 g/cm³), while viscosity remained consistent across formulations. Conclusion: The OSO ointment demonstrated biocompatibility and physicochemical stability at low concentrations. It also promoted wound healing, particularly at the 1:32 dilution, indicating its potential as a therapeutic option in topical formulations.
