Título: CHANGES IN HEMATOLOGIC INFLAMMATORY MARKERS DURING BISPHOSPHONATE TREATMENT: A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY

Resumo: Objective: To evaluate changes in inflammatory blood parameters during intravenous bisphosphonate treatment and assess the prevalence of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ).
Study Design: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 207 patients receiving intravenous bisphosphonate therapy. Demographic and clinical data were collected, including underlying disease and blood parameters at three timepoints: prior to treatment (HEMO 1), after the third dose (HEMO 2), and close to MRONJ diagnosis or equivalent timing (HEMO 3). Statistical analysis focused on trends in neutrophil, lymphocyte, and platelet counts, as well as derived inflammatory ratios.
Results: The majority of patients were male (63.76%) with a mean age of 70.1 years. Most common underlying conditions were prostate adenocarcinoma (45.89%), multiple myeloma (28.01%), and breast carcinoma (17.39%). Mean neutrophil counts showed a slight increase over time (HEMO 1: 3.99, HEMO 2: 3.88, HEMO 3: 4.19 ×10⁹/L). The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio increased from 3.00 to 3.15. Platelet counts decreased progressively. MRONJ was diagnosed in 14 patients (6.76%).
Conclusion: Bisphosphonate therapy was associated with dynamic alterations in systemic inflammatory markers. A slight rise in neutrophil-related parameters and a decline in platelet count were observed over time. The prevalence of MRONJ was 6.76% in this cohort.
