Resumo: The purpose of this review was to define the role of the dental surgeon in relation to a patient with Crohns disease, and for this, it was necessary to understand the disease and its oral manifestations. Case reports, cross-sectional studies, and literature reviews were collected from scientific databases, including the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (Lilacs), and Google Scholar, from 2019 to 2024. The selection criteria included studies that addressed Crohns disease, its oral manifestations, its pharmacological treatment, its pathophysiology, or the etiology of the disease. This review analyzed 23 articles, including 5 case reports, 4 cross-sectional studies, and 13 literature reviews. Except for one case report from Peru, all other studies were conducted in Brazil. Eleven articles were from the field of medicine, seven from dentistry, and four from biomedicine, nursing, pharmacy, and nutrition. It was possible to identify the characteristics of Crohns disease, even though its pathophysiology and etiology are poorly developed. The dental surgeon must recognize, diagnose, and treat Crohns oral lesions and, at times, refer a patient without a diagnosis to a medical specialist for further investigation.
