Área Temática: Oncologia

Resumo: Objective: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of return to work among survivors of head and neck cancer and to identify the main factors that facilitate or hinder this reintegration. Study Design: The study included 215 patients followed at two stomatology services, using questionnaires that covered socioeconomic, clinical, occupational, and psychosocial aspects. Results: Of the participants, 137 (63.7%) returned to work. Smaller tumors and the absence of lymph node or distant metastases were positively associated with returning to work. Conversely, treatments such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and multimodal approaches had a negative impact. Patients who completed treatment within six months were more likely to return. However, the presence of a tracheostomy and treatment-related side effects represented significant barriers. White-collar workers returned more frequently (75.0%). Those who returned to work also reported better quality of life (89.1%), higher levels of education and income, and a higher prevalence of anxiety symptoms. Conclusion: The findings reinforce that clinical, functional, and socioeconomic factors play a decisive role in return to work, highlighting the need for personalized strategies to support these patients in social and professional reintegration after cancer treatment.
