Nome do Apresentador: Pamela Oliveira de Vasconcelos

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de caso clínico (PCC)

Área Temática: Odontologia hospitalar

Resumo: The present work aims to report a 33 years old HIV (VL:56.200; CD4:6/uL)) male patient who was referred to a reference center infirmary presenting secretive cough and dyspnea (SpO2: 90%, RF: 30/min) Due to his progressive respiratory failure, it was required ICU admission. Further serological and microbiological investigation was negative for Hepatitis B and C, positive for Syphilis, negative for tuberculosis and positive for pneumocystosis and histoplasmosis. Chest X ray was performed suggesting bilateral pneumonia. Oral inspection revealed acute necrotizing gingivitis between 11 and 21 elements. Thus, swab collection was performed in the area, revealing the presence of PAS positive broad pauciseptate ribbon-like hyphaes presenting a 90o branching angle. Eggs and flies with positive fluorescence were also observed permeating focal areas of the specimen. Multitherapy was performed (ART + antifungal + antibiotic + antinflammatory therapy). Unfortunately, healths patient rapidly decayed and he died just one day after intubation.
