Resumo: Lesions and symptoms affecting lips and oral mucosa have diverse etiologies, and allergic or irritant contact stomatitis should be considered in the differential diagnosis. Recently, Colgate Total Active Prevention® (Colgate Brazil) underwent a formulation change, incorporating stannous fluoride (SnF₂) and a mint flavoring agent. In this case series, we report 22 patients, aged 20 to 70 years, who developed diffuse oral burning sensations, edema, erythema, mucosal desquamation, and painful ulcerated lesions after using the new toothpaste. The most commonly affected sites were the tongues ventral surface, the mouths floor, and the lower labial mucosa. Patients had previously consulted multiple professionals and undergone various treatments with no resolution. After toothpaste discontinuation, symptoms began to improve within 5 to 10 days after, with complete recovery subsequently observed. These cases reveal the diagnostic challenge and unnecessary interventions caused by a commonly used, rarely suspected toothpaste.
