Resumo: Objective: To present partial results of the masters research on the development and validation of an oral hygiene Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for mechanically ventilated patients in ICUs in Western Amazon, aiming to reduce nosocomial pneumonia incidence.
Study Design: Methodological study of development and validation in four phases: bibliographic review, SOP construction for dentate/edentulous patients, content validation by nurses/dentists via questionnaires and modified Delphi technique (ongoing), and descriptive statistical analysis (CVI, Kendalls Coefficient).
Results: Partial results from the developed oral hygiene SOP analyzed by specialists for clarity, comprehensiveness, and applicability. SOP items have achieved a CVI greater than 0.80.
Conclusion: The creation and partial validation of this SOP is a first step towards improving care quality, reducing nosocomial pneumonia and length of stay, and decreasing morbidity/mortality in critical patients in the region. The validated SOP will support standardized care, training, and future research in Western Amazon.
