Nome do Apresentador: Beatriz Bucker TRALHÃO

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: OBJECTIVE:
This study aimed to evaluate the demographic, clinical, and histopathological characteristics of palatal lesions diagnosed at an oral pathology reference center in São Paulo over a 10-year period.
STUDY DESIGN:
A retrospective observational study was conducted, including cases with primary involvement of the palate diagnosed between January 2014 and December 2023. Demographic and clinical data were extracted from biopsy request forms, while final diagnoses were obtained from histopathological reports. Clinical hypotheses were recorded and classified as correct or incorrect based on final diagnosis. Lesions were categorized as developmental, inflammatory/reactive, cystic, benign neoplastic, potentially malignant, or malignant neoplastic. Data were tabulated in Excel and analyzed using SPSS.
RESULTS:
A total of 1,513 cases were analyzed, with patient ages ranging from 1 to 99 years. The majority of cases involved females (58.75%, n = 889), followed by males (40.31%, n = 610), while 1.05% had unspecified sex. The hard palate was the most frequently affected site (751 cases), followed by the soft palate (415 cases).
CONCLUSION:
Understanding the prevalence and distribution of palatal lesions is essential for improving diagnostic accuracy, assessing risk factors, and enhancing patient prognosis. This study was supported by CNPq (Undergraduate Student Scholarship 2024-1399).
