Título: HEALTH CHALLENGES AND PHOTOBIOMODULATION THERAPY IN PATIENTS WITH EPIDERMOLYSIS BULLOSA: A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY

Nome do Apresentador: Mariana Silveira SOUZA

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Estomatologia

Resumo: Objective: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic condition that effects connective tissue, leading to painful ulcerations and oral complications. This study aimed to assess the general and oral health status of individuals with EB, outline their clinical profile, and propose preventive and therapeutic approaches to enhance oral care. Study design: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving clinical anamnesis, intraoral examination, and oral health education. Associations between clinical features and oral diseases were evaluated using Fisher's exact test. Results: Twelve patients with EB participated, 58% were female, with a mean age of 22 years. Anamnesis showed that 67% used medication, 92% were under regular medical follow-up, 50% had a history of hospitalization, 58% had anemia, and 42 % had undergone surgery. Regarding psychological aspects, 58% experienced anxiety, 58% reported good self-esteem, and 31% were in psychological therapy. Intraoral exams revealed mucosal lesions in 58% and dental caries in 42%. Pain showed a significant correlation with mucosal injuries (p = 0.024). Conclusion: Low-level lasers photobiomodulation was applied to manage oral lesions, resulting in clinical improvement in all treated patients.
