Resumo: Objective: To analyze the prevalence, morbidity, mortality, and survival of oropharyngeal cancer in the Western Amazon.Study Design: Descriptive, cross-sectional, and retrospective study of medical records (2008-2018) of 37 patients diagnosed with malignant neoplasm of the oropharynx in an oncology unit (UNACON). Analysis of overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) using Kaplan-Meier and Cox.Results: Predominance of men (73%) with a mean age of 56 years. Mainly from Rio Branco (51.4%) and feoderma ethnicity (54.1%). High prevalence of smoking (45.9%). Moderately differentiated SCC (54.1%) and stage IV (45.9%) were more frequent. Tonsillar fossa was the most common primary location (24.3%), with a mortality rate of 51.4%. Primary location (p=0.03) and surgery (p<0.01) were significant for OS, with worse prognosis in the base of the tongue and better with surgery. Conclusion: The profile of oropharyngeal cancer in the Western Amazon includes diagnosis at advanced stages and high prevalence in men. The tumor location and the performance of surgery impacted survival. The lack of data on HPV and underreporting of deaths limit the complete understanding of the disease in the region, reinforcing the need for more studies and prevention.
