Resumo: Laugier-Hunziker syndrome (LHS) is characterized by melanic hyperpigmentation of the lips and oral mucosa, as well as longitudinal melanonychia, which helps in the diagnosis. LHS primarily affects middle aged women. This report presents two clinical instances involving white women aged 43 and 73 with no systemic disorders and had diffuse brown macules on lips, tongue, jugal mucosa, floor of mouth, and hard and soft palates. Their fingernails showed longitudinal melanonychia. Biopsies revealed hyperplastic parakeratinized stratified pavement epithelium, melanic pigmentation concentrations in the basal layer of the epithelium, and connective tissue with brownish pigmented melanophages, all of which were consistent with a melanotic macula and a final diagnosis of LHS. LHS is a rare and acquired condition, and patients are still being followed up. This report describes another syndrome that should be included in the differential diagnosis of oral mucosa pigmented diseases, as well as its diagnostic method, findings, and treatment.
