Resumo: The present study aims to evaluate oral complications such as candidiasis, xerostomia/hyposalivation associated with mucositis in cancer patients undergoing antineoplastic treatment at a oncology reference hospital, as well as to analyze the use of laser therapy (photobiomodulation) in managing these conditions. This is a quantitative, cross-sectional, and retrospective study conducted through the analysis of medical records and clinical notes of patients treated from 2020 to 2022. Following inclusion and exclusion criteria during the pandemic, twenty (n=20) patients were included in the study; of these, 60% presented with oral candidiasis (n=12) and 40% reported xerostomia (n=8). Laser therapy was applied in 90% of the cases (n=18), resulting in significant symptom improvement: a 70% reduction in candidiasis lesions, an 80% decrease in xerostomia complaints, and a 90% reduction in mucositis after laser therapy. Compared to previous data from another study conducted at the same reference hospital from 2017 to 2019, the results suggest that laser therapy is an effective and safe alternative for managing these oral complications, promoting a better quality of life for cancer patients. Funding: FAPEAM.
