Título: ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL COMPLEX LESIONS IN HIV-POSITIVE PATIENTS: A ONE YEAR PROSPECTIVE STUDY FROM A SINGLE HOSPITAL

Resumo: The objective of our research is to evaluate and document oral cavity and maxillofacial complex lesions associated with HIV infection on hospitalized patients in a reference hospital for infectious diseases and categorize those lesions using the classification method for AIDS-associated oral lesions proposed by WHO EC-Clearinghouse, to confirm the presence of the lesions described by the classification method e detect other pathological entities not usually associated within the group of patients studied. It is a documentary, observational, epidemiological, descriptive, cross-sectional, prospective study, with a quantitative approach, carried out for one year, data are collected through clinical, cytopathological, histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations for diagnosis and recorded through photographic records and spreadsheets. One third of the patients presented documentable lesions, such as Kaposis sarcoma, oral candidiasis, necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis, non-Hodgkins lymphoma, oral hairy leukoplakia, herpes, histoplasmosis, mucormycosis, aspergillosis, myiasis, salivary gland diseases, nonspecific oral ulcers, cutaneous leishmaniasis, squamous cell carcinoma, hairy tongue, dentoalveolar abscess, small cell round tumor, among others. In conclusion, it was observed that HIV and AIDS are responsible for considerable pathological manifestations, several of the expected oral manifestations were present, but some other pathological entities were manifested by immunosuppression related to AIDS.
