Título: IMUNOEXPRESSION OF IgG AND IgG4 IN POTENTIALLY MALIGNANT ORAL DISORDERS AND LOWER LIP AND ORAL CARCINOMAS

Nome do Apresentador: Cecília Aparecida de Oliveira CAMPOS

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: Objective: Some studies have suggested that IgG+ and IgG4+ plasma cells in the tumor microenvironment contribute to tumorigenesis and tumor progression. However, their expression patterns in oral potentially malignant disorders and oral (OSCC) and lower lip (LSCC) squamous cell carcinoma, remain to be elucidated.
Study Design: Immunohistochemical analysis were conducted to compare the IgG and IgG4 expression in samples of oral leukoplakia (OL; n=13), actinic cheilitis (AC; n=11), OSCC (n=12), and LSCC (n=11). The clinicopathological variables were compared in correlation with IgG and IgG4 expression. The results were subjected to statistical analysis.
Results: An IgG4+/IgG+ plasma cell ratio of >40% was observed in 15/47 (32%) cases, being significantly prevalent in OSCC/OL (11/15 cases). The IgG and IgG4 expression was significantly higher in OSCC than OL (both, <0.001); and in LSCC than AC (p=0.003 and p=0.068, respectively). Comparatively, the IgG and IgG4 expression was higher in OSCC/OL than LSCC/AC, but without significant differences. There were no significant differences when comparing with other clinicopathological variables.
Conclusion: OSCCs/LSCCs show significant higher levels of IgG and IgG4 expression than OLs/ACs, suggesting that this plasma cell subset may be involved in the immune mechanisms of oral and lip carcinogenesis.
