Resumo: Abstract
Trismus is a common and debilitating complication after head and neck radiotherapy, impairing chewing, speech, oral hygiene, and psychological well-being. This case report presents a 68-years-old male with a history of laryngeal carcinoma treated with radiotherapy, who developed severe trismus (3 mm mouth opening) and bilateral mandibular osteoradionecrosis, significantly compromising his quality of life. Functional rehabilitation was achieved throught low-level laser therapy, resulting in a progressive improvement of mouth opening to 30 mm after three sessions. Management of the necrotic area included local curettage, chlorexidine irrigation, and systemic antibiotic therapy. The patient was also referred to another clinic for ozone therapy and further oral rehabilitation. This case highlights the role of dental follow-up from the onset of oncologic treatment, emphasizing the benefits of a conservative, multidisciplinary approach for management of trismus and osteoradionecrosis, promoting significant functional recovery and improved quality of life.
