Título: PLASMA CELL GINGIVITIS INDUCED BY PEPPER: AN UNUSUAL CLINICAL CASE

Resumo: An 80-year-old Caucasian female patient with a history of hypertension presented with gingival overgrowth in the anterior maxilla, accompanied by a burning sensation and spontaneous bleeding. Clinical examination revealed fragility and swelling of the vestibular gingival mucosa. The patient had multiple prosthetic crowns in the affected region. However, no abnormalities were detected on radiographic examination. Treatment included systemic antibiotic therapy and subgingival scaling. The histopathological analysis demonstrated epithelial hyperplasia, spongiosis, and intense exocytosis. The lamina propria exhibited a dense inflammatory infiltrate predominantly composed of plasma cells. Based on clinical and histopathological findings, a diagnosis of plasma cell gingivitis was established. The patient reported daily consumption of hot sauce with all meals. She was advised to discontinue this habit and was prescribed a corticosteroid mouthwash. After one month, significant remission was observed. The patient continues to receive periodic clinical follow-ups for biofilm control.
