Resumo: Resumo:Social diseases such as syphilis, tuberculosis and leprosy are known to be linked to the development of human history. Syphilis is a sexually transmitted, curable and exclusive human infection caused by the bacterium Treponema Pallidum which, if left untreated, can reach vital organs and lead to irreversible consequences in the long term. Identified by Fritz Richard Schaudinn and named by Sir William Osler as the great imitator. Contemplating the history of syphilis in the past brings us to current issues regarding its spread such as poverty, migration, dissemination of preventable diseases, human sexuality, ignorance regarding science, populism and uncertainty regarding uncontrollable factors because, despite all human progress, we are currently experiencing an epidemic of syphilis, the great imitator and impostor that has plagued humanity for centuries.
