Resumo: In 2017, the World Health Organization reported a new entity of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) known as HPV-related OSCC, which presents distinct clinical and histopathological features. The present study aims to validate histomorphometric parameters by comparing conventional OSCC (well, moderately, and poorly differentiated) with HPV-related OSCC diagnosed at a reference oral pathology service in the state of Amazonas, Brazil. This is a quantitative, retrospective, descriptive, observational, and cross-sectional study based on histopathological reports issued at the aforementioned service between 2012 and 2023. The main morphological features to be analyzed include the presence and quantity of basaloid cells, koilocytosis, and atypical mitoses, using the ImageJ software. A total of 91 reports were collected, of which 55 were excluded according to the exclusion criteria (cases not related to the project, lost or retrieved biological material and cases with only cytopathological or suggestive diagnoses). Thus, the final sample size was n= 36. The study expects to assess diagnostic accuracy based on morphometric features between HPV-related and conventional OSCC. Statistical analysis will be conducted using ANOVA. Therefore, it is anticipated that a greater prevalence of these morphological characteristics will be observed in HPV-related OSCC.
