Resumo: Objective: This systematic review aimed to evaluate the impact of oral mucositis (OM) on the quality of life (QoL) of children undergoing cancer treatment. Study Design: A systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Searches were performed in four electronic databases, gray literature, and reference lists of included articles. Eligibility criteria included studies involving pediatric cancer patients and assessing the association between OM and QoL. No publication year restrictions were applied. Exclusion criteria were case-control studies, literature reviews, case reports, and articles not published in English. A total of 1,781 studies were identified, of which four met the inclusion criteria. Results: All included studies reported that children and adolescents who developed OM during antineoplastic therapy experienced a negative impact on their QoL. The most commonly reported complications were pain and dysphagia. Furthermore, more severe grades of OM (grades 3 and 4) were associated with greater impairment in QoL.Conclusion: The available evidence indicates that OM is a significant complication during pediatric cancer treatment, worsening both physical discomfort and overall quality of life. These findings highlight the importance of preventive and therapeutic strategies to mitigate the impact of OM in this vulnerable population.
