Resumo: Syphilis is a sexually transmitted bacterial infection with many new cases worldwide. Femalepatient, 30 years old, leucoderma, complained of "throat irritation" for 7 months. She soughtother professionals and the hypothesis was "thrush". There was worsening in the burningsymptoms that extended to the tongue and palate, with difficulty swallowing. The intraoralexamination showed erythematous spots with ulcerated areas of whitish bed, painful in thesoft palate and oropharynx. The diagnostic hypotheses were aphthous ulcerations,candidosis and syphilis. It was prescribed mouthwash, topical antifungal and laboratory testswere requested. Patient returned without improvement and awaited the result which werereactive for syphilis, she was referred to an infectious disease specialist who prescribedPenicillin G-benzatine. There was regression of the lesions and symptoms. She will returnfor follow-up. It is important for healthcare professionals to be aware of injuries that maymimic others, requesting specific tests for correct diagnosis.
