Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: Objective: To assess whether indirect application of PDT and PBM influences the histological modification in the palatine mucosa of rats exposed to 4NQO oral carcinogenesis model.
Study design: The study analyzed palatine mucosa samples from 40 rats previously exposed to systemic 4NQO. The animals were divided into four groups according to the laser protocol applied to the tongue: control group (n=11), PBM for 3 seconds group (n=11), PBM for 10 seconds group (n=11), and PDT group (n=7). The palatine tissues were stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E). All samples were evaluated by two independent researchers using WHO criteria. Statistical analysis was conducted using One-Way ANOVA in Microsoft Excel Starter 2010.
Results: A total of 31 cases of SCC and 9 cases of ED were diagnosed. In the PDT group (n=7), 85.71% (n=6) developed SCC. In the control group (n=11), 63.63% (n=7) developed SCC. In both PBM 3-second and PBM 10-second groups (n=11 each), 81.81% (n=9) developed SCC. No statistically significant difference among the four groups was observed (p = 0.65).
Conclusion: Indirect application of PDT and PBM did not influence the histological outcomes in the palatal mucosa of rats exposed to 4NQO-induced oral carcinogenesis.
