Resumo: Amyloidosis (AM) is a rare disease that occurs when abnormal proteins called amyloids build up in various tissues and organs. These amyloid deposits can interfere with the normal functioning of organs such as the heart, liver, and nerves. Minor salivary gland biopsy (MSGB) is a minimally invasive tool for diagnosing systemic amyloidosis, offering a simple alternative to more invasive methods. Therefore, we report a case of a 53-year-old man referred from the rheumatologist, suspecting of amyloidosis. The patient presented symptoms such as difficulty breathing and was diagnosed with myocardial thickening after cardiologic exams. Thus, MSGB was performed under local anesthesia and the specimen sent for microscopic examination. The histopathological analysis revealed minor salivary glands showing acinar atrophy, ductal dilation, and the presence of diffuse, hypovascular eosinophilic hyaline and was positive on red Congo stain, confirming AM diagnosis. The patient received post-operative instructions and was referred to the physician for treatment.
