Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: Objective: CD209 and FXIIIA are important immunomarkers of the innate immune system, characterizing a submucosal dendritic cell subgroup, which have been implicated in tumorigenesis. However, its role in oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) and oral (OSCC) and lower lip (LLSCC) squamous cell carcinomas remains to be elucidated.
Study Design: Oral leukoplakia (OL, n=12), actinic cheilitis (AC, n=10), OSCC (n=12), and LLSCC (n=11), were assessed through CD209 and FXIIIA immunomarkers. The results were subjected to statistical analysis.
Results: With similar expression within SCCs and OPMDs, FXIIIA expression was significantly higher in OSCC than OL (p=0.001) and LLSCC than AC (p=0.022). With similar expression in OL, AC, and LLSCC, CD209 expression was significantly higher in OSCC (p=0.001). Overall, most groups showed significant higher expression of CD209 than FXIIIA. There were no significant differences when comparing FXIIIA and CD209 expression with other clinicopathological variables.
Conclusion: Our results show gradual increase from CD209 and FXIIIA in OPMDs to SCCs. The differential expression of both markers suggests the participation of distinct subpopulations of innate immune cells in the cellular mechanisms of the oral and lip carcinogenesis, providing valuable data on potential immunotherapeutic targets.
