Título: SMOKING CONTROL PROGRAM IN A ORAL MEDICINE SERVICE OF A BRAZILIAN PUBLIC UNIVERSITY

Resumo: Smoking is a serious public health problem that impacts millions of people around the world, considered by World Health Organization (WHO) as a chronic disease that results in various diseases and losses of more than 8 millions of lives every year. Among the factors that cause oral squamous cells carcinomas, smoking is the most relevant for the emergence and maintenance of theses lesions. Therefore, since 2020, a Clinical and Therapeutic Protocol for Smoking was inserted in the brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) as part of the National Tobacco Control Program. The purpose of this presentation is to introduce a successful Smoking Control Program in a Oral Medicine Service of a brazilian public university, based on the Unified Health System (SUS) model, so that all the others oral medicine services in Brazil can adopt the same protocols to contribute even more to the prevention and treatment of oral cancer.
