Título: RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TUMOR STAGE AND GENDER AT DIAGNOSIS OF ORAL SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA. A PRELIMINARY STUDY.

Resumo: OBJECTIVE: To analyze gender differences, female (F) - male (M) at the time of first consultation, and their relationship with the different tumor stages of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective study was carried out on the medical records of patients seen for the first time in an stomatology department from 2021 to 2023. The number of patients, diagnosis, gender, age, diagnosis of potentially oral malignancy disorders (OPMD), and diagnosis of OSCC were recorded.

RESULTS: 464 patients were included, 59.7% F, mean age 58.3 years +/- 16.2 years, and 40.3% M, mean age 58.5 years +/- 15.6 years. Of the F population, 10.1% had OPMD and M 4.8%. Of the total diagnoses, 23.3% corresponded to OSCC and 55.6% were M. Of the total OSCC, it was observed that the M gender consulted mostly with tumor stages 3 and 4 while the F gender consulted with early stages, in situ, 1 and 2.

CONCLUSION: Based on the preliminary results of this study, we propose to consider a gender perspective in the analysis of epidemiological data to carry out planned promotion and prevention strategies.
