Resumo: Lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease with diverse clinical presentations.
There is no consensus on the optimal management of oral lesions for this alteration.
However, the use of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) has become relevant
as an adjuvant, especially in the treatment of infected oral lesions. This study reports a
case of a 39-year-old female patient, presenting with red rounded macules with
undefined borders, symptomatic ulcerations in jugal mucosa, gums, palate, and
sublingual space, with nine months of evolution. Anatomopathological analysis
confirmed the diagnosis of Lupus erythematosus. Cytopathological analysis indicated
inflammation, with the presence of bacteria. Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy
(methylene blue 0.01%/5 minutes; 660nm; 40mW; 100s per point) was instituted
weekly. After thirty days, the lesions regressed. Thus, antimicrobial photodynamic
therapy is a valid treatment as an adjuvant with promising results in the treatment of
Lupus erythematosus oral lesions.
