Resumo: A 16-month-old girl accompanied by her mother was referred for an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service complaining of a painless slowly growing lesion in the tongue lasting 6 months. Medical and family history were unremarkable. Oral examination revealed an exophytic well-defined lobulated nodule covered by an atrophic oral mucosa, measuring 1,0 cm, located on the dorsum of the tongue. Clinical diagnosis was pyogenic granuloma and an excisional biopsy was performed under general anesthesia. Histological analysis of the stained slides showed a proliferation of spindled and stellated mesenchymal cells arranged in sheets and in a myxoid pattern. Immunohistochemical reactions showed positivity for HHF35, calponin, smooth muscle actin, S100, CD68, AE1AE3, and beta-catenin. Final diagnosis was compatible with ectomesenchymal chondromyxoid tumor. The patient has been followed-up for 8 months and is currently asymptomatic with no clinical evidence of recurrence.
