Nome do Apresentador: Gabriel Bassan Marinho MACIEL

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of adjunctive antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) using methylene blue (MB) solubilized in ethanol on systemic inflammation and leukocyte response in diabetic rats with periodontitis. Study Design: 25 rats were induced to diabetes, and after 14 days, 20 rats were also induced to periodontal disease. On the same day, the animals were randomized into 5 experimental groups: negative control (NC, n=5), positive control (PC, without treatment, n=5), scaling and root planing (SRP, n=5), SRP plus aPDT with MB dissolved in water (aPDT I, n=5), and SRP plus aPDT with MB dissolved in ethanol (aPDT II, n=5). Ligature used to induce periodontal disease was removed from all animals after 7 days of placement, and periodontal treatments were performed. After 7 days, the animals were euthanized, and blood was collected to analyze the systemic inflammatory and leukocyte profile. Results: aPDT showed a protective influence observed especially by the decrease in systemic inflammatory mediators. Conclusion: aPDT as an adjunct to SRP can induce a systemic protective response against inflammation induced by periodontitis, especially when MB is dissolved in hydroalcoholic solution and in the presence of diabetes.
