Título: CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT OF EXTENSIVE UNICYSTIC AMELOBLASTOMA IN THE MANDIBLE: A CASE REPORT

Resumo: Ameloblastoma is a locally aggressive and infiltrative benign odontogenic tumor. A 21-year-old female patient was referred to the oral surgery service due to a radiographic finding. Clinical examination revealed an increase in facial volume in the posterior region of the jaw. Imaging exams showed a well-defined, unilocular radiolucent lesion with a radiopaque halo, extending in the anteroposterior direction of the mandible with displacement of tooth 48. An incisional biopsy was performed, and a diagnosis of unicystic ameloblastoma was made. The treatment performed was enucleation and curettage of the lesion and extraction of tooth 48, without any complications. The patient is still being monitored with periodic panoramic radiography, and after nine months of the procedure, new bone formation has been observed in the right mandible, with no signs of lesion recurrence. Unicystic ameloblastoma has a less aggressive behavior than solid type, therefore a conservative treatment is possible, nonetheless follow-up is mandatory.
