Título: EFFECTS OF RADIOTHERAPY ON THE MORPHOLOGICAL AND COMPOSITIONAL STRUCTURE OF INTRA-RADICULAR DENTIN: IN VITRO STUDY

Nome do Apresentador: Rogério GONDAK

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the effects of radiotherapy (RDT) on root dentin. Study Design: Thirty human canines were selected from a biobank and divided into 2 groups. The samples were sectioned in buccolingual direction, and a hemisection was used to evaluate the intrarradicular dentin using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS). The analysis of the dentinal tubules' obliteration was performed with a magnification at 2500x in low vacuum SEM, and the inorganic composition in EDS. The RDT protocol was 70Gy divided into daily doses of 2Gy, in 7 weeks. After the RDT protocol, a new evaluation was performed with the same methodology. Collagen integrity analysis of all samples was performed using Masson´s trichrome and picrosirius red staining polarization microscopy. Results: RDT promotes the obliteration of dentinal tubules (p < 0.001), reduction in the composition of calcium (p = 0.012), phosphorus (p = 0.001), magnesium (p < 0.001), and impacts on the integrity of collagen fibers (p < 0.05). Conclusion: RDT affects the structure of root dentin and may interfere in dental procedures.
